BuzzMachine: Dell Archives I was attracted to this category archive at the Buzzmachine. I have recently had conversations with people in the networking IT profession who have also told me horror stories about doing business with Dell.
I actually have had a few support issues with Dell myself, but I usually let them slide. My issues are never simple and they, by virtue of their size and purchasing power, are severely handicapped in dealing with actual people. Its all a trade off.
I was also interested to note their current blogging strategy is pretty passive. (Thanks also to Dwight Silverman of the Houston Chronicle who in his blog post on the topic introduced us top the word digirati.) They have an unknown number of employees reading forums and blogs to see what we're saying about them. But they won't comment. Presumably even if we insult their mothers. (They wear combat boots!)
I think as Jarvis at Buzzmachine is right about the potential of Blogs to give large companies a channel for real communication. If I was King of Dell for a day, I would make all the executives start blogs to communicate with real users.
... keep in mind that this is a technology company. It's also a company that doesn't have a retail channel and so it should have a different, direct, new, and better relationship with its customers.
And just in case the guys who build my next server are reading this, I was only kidding about your mom.
